Bio: Lady Gaga is an American recording artist who began performing in the Lower East Side in 2003. Before making it big she contributed lyrics for other artists under the same labels she was under. Her debut album The Fame reached #1 in the US, Canada, Austria, Germany & Ireland, while reaching the top 10 in six other nations. The first two singles from the album “Just Dance” & “Poker Face” became number one hits in various countries across the globe.
Gaga tries to implement the inspirations of David Bowie, Queen, Madonna & Michael Jackson into everything she does. She has sold over fifteen million albums & was recently featured in Forbes as one of the 100 Most Powerful & Influential celebrities in the world, coming in ranked second (as far as musicians go).
After dropping out of school Gaga rented an apartment & scrapped together whatever money she could in the hopes someone would give her a chance. As a result of her lack of employment she starting doing drugs & performing at burlesque shows.
Her music producer Rob Fusari admits her stage name was simply taken from the Queen song “Radio Ga Ga” because he felt she sang like Freddie Mercury. He claims he texted her Radio Ga Ga & his phone changed it to Lady Gaga & the name stuck. After hearing some of her work she was immediately signed by Streamline Records & they began working on an album.
Gaga has already won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year & Best Electronic/Dance album. Due to her instant success radio stations belt out one Gaga song after another.
Barbara Walters chose Lady Gaga as one of her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009. At some point Fusari tried to cash in on Gaga’s success by suing for 20% of her earnings. Gaga is currently hard at work on a new album in which she intends to release in 2011. She claims she’ll get a tattoo of the album cover in time for New Year’s.
