Name: La Roux
Date of Birth: 2008
Origin: London, England
Instrument: Vocals, Keyboards
Bio: La Roux is an English pop duo consisting of singer & keyboardist Eleanor Jackson and keyboardist Ben Langmaid. Both members of the band co-write & co-produce each of the songs they create.
Creating synthesized pop music with their keyboards the band is said to be influenced by 80’s British bands Yazoo, Erasure, Depeche Mode, The Human League & Heaven 17.
The duo from London, England broke onto the scene in 2008 & their recent single can be seen on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown. La Roux is currently on tour singing the hits from their self titled album released in 2009.
The band’s name comes from the French words “la rousse” & “le roux” (the male version of the word) which loosely translates to “red haired one.” Jackson says the band name was a perfect fit due to her red hair & tomboyish look. Most believe her look is a front to David Bowie.
Elly Jackson is said to be influenced by Carole King, David Bowie, Madonna & Prince. The band also features occasional members Michael Norris, Mickey O’Brien, & William Bowerman. Shortly after the debut of their hit single “Bulletproof” being released they were invited to perform at Lollapalooza. The band has also performed on a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live program. In addition to their musical acumen the band is also interested in fashion & will be judging the Bestival festival this year.
