Bio: Celine Dion is a Canadian singer-songwriter who broke onto the scenes in 1990 with the backing of manager & future husband Rene Angelil. Her debut album Unison reached North America & other English speaking countries where it was a huge success.
Prior to being noticed by English speaking countries in the 90’s Dion established herself in Canada during the 80’s winning multiple festival singing contests & releasing albums through CBS Records Canada in the latter part of the decade. In the 90’s she signed with Epic Records & became a pop icon. She took time off in the late 90’s to be at the side of her ailing husband who was diagnosed with cancer but returned with a vengeance.
While Dion’s songs are deemed “pop” by most accounts she admits her music has been influenced by rock, R&B, gospel & classical music. Due to her powerful vocals & technical prowess in 2004 Dion was presented with the Chopard Diamond Award at the World Music Awards for becoming the best selling female artist of all time. By most accounts Dion has sold well over 200 million albums across the globe.
Dion is entering her 4th decade as a singer but only her 3rd as a known entity. Celine Dion using her five octave vocal range continues to belt out hits to this day, in spite of having two kids & an ill husband. Like many other musicians Dion has also dabbled in other realms. She has a restaurant called “Nickels” which she opened in 1990. She has also worked closely with Cystic Fibrosis foundations. Dion is also one of few people to have a star on the Canadian & Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Dion is currently performing nightly in Las Vegas.
