Name: Barry Manilow
Date of Birth: June 17th, 1943
Origin: Brooklyn, NY
Instrument: Vocals, Keyboard, Accordion
Bio: Barry Manilow is an American song writer, musician, entertainer & performer best known for the songs “Mandy”, “I Write the Songs”, “Weekend in New England”, “Can’t Smile Without You” & “Copacabana.”
Manilow is a pioneer in the industry & continues to perform to this day.
Manilow has had five albums on the best selling charts at the same time, something only Sinatra, Michael Jackson & Johnny Mathis have accomplished otherwise. Manilow has won 3 straight American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. As a result of Manilow’s chops other musicians have taken note & given him their “stamp of approval” – including Sinatra & Bob Dylan.
It should be noted not everyone is a great fan of Manilow, whose critics sometime claim his songs are “overdone.” Those Manilow has worked with such as Bette Midler, Dionne Warwick & Rosemary Clooney couldn’t disagree more.
Manilow’s career has spanned four decades & his contributions to music will be felt long after he is gone. In addition to Manilow’s mainstream music he has also produced jingles for KFC, Pepsi, Jack in the Box, Dr. Pepper & McDonald’s. He created the McDonald’s “You Deserve a Break” campaign as well. Manilow also produced the theme song for The Late Show during the early years. Manilow has also made a number of financial contributions as well, including a donation to the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina.
Manilow continues to write songs for other artists, films & commercials. He can currently be seen performing at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas on most nights.
