Bio: Adam Lambert is an American singer/songwriter best known for his appearances on American Idol. Lambert is reportedly the first openly gay artist to launch a career on a major label. Lambert’s debut album For Your Entertainment sold almost 200,000 copies in its first week in the US. Before breaking through Lambert spent most of his time acting in high school participating in various school musicals. He also performed in his local opera house.
Lambert auditioned for the 8th season of American Idol in San Francisco. He told Rolling Stone magazine he only decided to audition after using drugs & having a “vision.” Lambert cites Madonna, Queen, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith & Led Zeppelin as his musical influences. Like most performers on Idol only Simon Cowell disliked most of his performances, while the other judges raved.
Due to a picture surfacing of Lambert kissing another man he was eventually forced to admit to being gay. The issue was taken to task by Bill O’Reilly who constantly discussed it on his television show. Most believe the fact that Lambert was gay prevented him from winning the Idol competition.
Lambert debuted his debut album in late 2009 which has been dubbed a “rock pop electronic dance thing.” Lambert gained his biggest audience at the American Music Awards in 2009 when he performed some risqué moves which resulted in ABC yanking him from a scheduled appearance on their Good Morning America program. CBS, almost immediately, invited him to perform on their The Early Show program which airs at the same time.
During the past American Idol season Lambert worked as a guest mentor during the episode aired April 13th, 2010 helping Idol contestants. Lambert is currently touring until December.
