Bio: Taylor Swift is an American country singer/songwriter who continues to gain notoriety with every song she belts out. Her self entitled debut album has already been certified multi platinum. Her second album netted her four Grammy Awards. Her second album also sat at the top of the billboard charts for 11 straight weeks, which resulted in Billboard Magazine naming her Artist of the Year in 2009.
In 2008 her albums sold over four million copies making her the best selling musician of the year in the United States. As a result Forbes ranked her the 69th most powerful celebrity, as far as earnings. Nielsen SoundScan has also listed her as the top selling digital artist in music history.
Swift began writing songs as a youngster due to not fitting in at school. She’d write songs about how the other kids would react to her. Swift notes Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Tina Turner & Dolly Parton as her musical influences. She also respects the Dixie Chicks for “repeatedly stretching boundaries.”
At age fourteen Swift was asked to sing at the US Open tennis tournament, which was met with rave reviews. Shortly after RCA Records rejected her, which lead her to sign with Big Machine Records. Since Swift has belted out hit after hit from “Teardrops on My Guitar” to “Our Song.”
Swift has also had her songs used during NBC’s Olympic recap coverage. Another song that did well on the billboard charts for swift was “Forever & Always” which was based on the singer’s relationship with Joe Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame. Swift has also recently performed the Star Spangled Banner at World Series games.
In addition to great success as a solo artist, she has had great success collaborating with other musicians, such as John Mayer with their hit “Half of My Heart.”
