Bio: The Avett Brothers are a folk rock band from Concord, North Carolina. The band, made up of Scott & Seth Avett, play the banjo & guitar. The band also includes Bob Crawford (stand up bass) & occasionally Joe Kwon (cellist). The band used to play rock music & were known as Nemo but had very little success. Now as The Avett Brothers the band combines bluegrass, country, punk, pop, folk, rock & roll & ragtime to its musical repertoire. They are said to have the pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jingles of the Beatles & the energy of the Ramones.
While The Avett Brothers failed as Nemo, they gained a lot of information through failing as that band. Scott started experimenting with acoustical music & decided to incorporate this into The Avett Brothers sound. By 2002 Nemo was no more & The Avett Brothers were formed. They recorded their first album Country was shortly thereafter & immediately went on tour to promote their new sound. The band’s next release A Carolina Jubilee showcased the band’s new found energy as well as a redefined sound, much different from their time as Nemo.
The band has put out other albums but have had their greatest success with I & Love & You which reached #7 for rock albums on the billboard 200 & #1 for folk songs. The song by the same name isn’t about lost love as the title would suggest but rather the growing distance between the band & their fans.
While the band has won AMA awards their fan base continues to grow due to being seen & heard on television. In 2007 The Avett Brothers performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Their songs have also been used during the NBC show Friday Night Lights & in early 2010 they had a PBS recording air of one of their concerts. They’ve also appeared on Letterman, Ferguson & Fallon which has garnered even more fans. As a result they were asked to play at the 2010 Bonnaroo Music Festival.
